The US Navy Yokosuka Ladyhawks and their
Japanese “sister” team, the Yokosuka Seagulls
FC are both training hard in preparation
for an upcoming international ten-team holiday
tournament, organized by the Yokosuka Seagulls
FC called the “Seagulls Cup 2000.” The
annual tournament sponsored by the Kanagawa
Sports Association, in cooperation with Shonan
Gakuin High School, Sasagawa Sports Foundation
and the Shonan Credit Bank, will be hosted
by the Yokosuka Naval Base MWR and held for
the first time, in Ikego Heights, a Navy
housing area close to the Yokosuka Naval
Base.
In addition to the Navy’s Ladyhawks and
the Yokosuka Seagulls FC, another American
team from Presentation High School in San
Jose, California will travel to Japan to
participate as part of the Yokosuka Seagull’s
cultural exchange program between the two
teams. The other seven teams will come from
various parts of the Kanto Plain area, including
the number two team in this year’s All-Japan
High School League, Shonan Gakuin HighSchool
from Yokosuka.
The Seagulls Cup 2000 Holiday Tournament
in Ikego is scheduled for 28, 29, 30 December,
kicking off each day on two soccer fields
simultaneously, at 1000. For the first two
days, approximately 300 players and coaches
will compete in a series of preliminary round-robin
matches, concluding on the third day with
final competitions for the tournament winner.
Teams include the US Navy Ladyhawks (Yokosuka,
Japan), Presentation High School (San Jose,
CA. USA), Seagulls FC (Yokosuka, Japan),
Shonan Gakuin High School (Yokosuka, Japan),
Seitoku High School (Tokyo, Japan), Saitama
Sakae High School (Saitama, Japan), FC Susukino/FC
Tendai (Kanagawa, Japan), Murata Girls High
School (Tokyo, Japan) and Honjyo High School
(Saitama, Japan).
Food concessions for spectators and players
will be operated at the fields all three
days by both the Yokosuka Navy Exchange and
MWR organizations.
Premier soccer on the high school and adult
level will be the venue during this wonderful
holiday tournament. Be sure to put this event
